The European Union (EU) has more leverage over China than is commonly believed. This was announced on December 9 by the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas.

"The EU has significant economic leverage in the world. For example, we have more leverage over China than we used to think," the broadcast was carried out on the YouTube channel of the European Parliament.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday, December 7, that the EU will take tough measures in the coming months if China does not take steps to resolve the trade deficit between the two sides. Otherwise, according to Macron, Europe will be forced to impose duties on Chinese goods, as the United States did.

The Reuters news agency reported on November 8 that Germany's ruling coalition plans to review its trade policy towards China, including on energy, raw material imports and Chinese investments in critical infrastructure, and will also create a committee of experts that will report to parliament.

Before that, on October 24, the Bild newspaper reported that Berlin had sent a diplomatic note to Beijing over the ban on the supply of Chinese microchips to Europe. According to German Minister of Economy and Energy Katerina Reiche, the government has not yet been able to solve the problem of the shortage of chips.
