- Freight traffic between Russia and China increased by 6.5% since the beginning of the year
According to the results of 9 months, freight traffic between Russia and China increased by 6.5% compared to the same period in 2024. Transportation through border crossings in the Far East, on the contrary, has decreased by 2.3% since the beginning of the year, despite an increase in coal exports.
According to IA PrimaMedia, with reference to Irina Magnushevskaya, Deputy General Director of Russian Railways, exports by rail increased by 10.3% or 11.3 million tons. We are talking about grain, coal, fertilizers, non-ferrous metals.
The monopoly predicts an increase in cargo transportation from China not only this year, but also in 2026.
175 million tons of cargo were transported by rail from Russia to China last year, compared with 161 million tons a year earlier. In total, according to the Far Eastern Railway, from January to September of this year, 13.7 million tons of cargo were transported through border crossings in the Far East. Shipments through the Grodekovo—Suifenhe border crossing increased by 1% to 6.5 million tons.
Earlier, shipping companies and business representatives told Izvestia that demand for delivery from China jumped by 30% in November compared to last month alone. Experts attribute this excitement to the desire of various companies to resolve all logistical issues before the start of Chinese New Year celebrations in China. Due to the long weekends, shipments may be stuck there for about a month. And this year, Russian businesses started preparing for the Chinese long weekend earlier than usual.
