The American corporation Microsoft has announced that it will spend $8 billion by 2029 on data centers, cloud computing and employees in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to enable the Persian Gulf country to become a global technology hub. This was reported by Bloomberg on November 3.

Microsoft President Brad Smith said that this is money that the company does not earn in the UAE, but will invest in this country. According to him, the investment also includes plans to triple the number of advanced chips from Nvidia Corp., which Microsoft will use to gain access to important hardware.

It is noted that the American company plans to invest a total of $15.2 billion in the UAE from 2023 to 2029. According to Smith, in the UAE, Microsoft plans to spend more than $5.5 billion on capital investments in cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure from early 2026 to 2029.

On October 28, Microsoft signed a long—term agreement with OpenAI, the developer of the ChatGPT neural network. According to the document, Microsoft will receive a 27% stake in OpenAI Group PBC. This package is estimated at about $135 billion. The agreement also provides for the transformation of OpenAI's commercial division into a socially useful corporation and recapitalization.
