Zakharova pointed to the EU's self-isolation in the international arena
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the European Union (EU), in its fight against circumvention of anti-Russian sanctions, is isolating itself in the international arena by imposing restrictions on companies from Asia and the Middle East. This was announced on October 24 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"Having played into its own exclusivity, the EU is blackmailing an increasing number of third countries with the spread of "secondary" sanctions. Thus, he explicitly declares that he considers himself entitled to dictate his own terms of trade and economic cooperation between sovereign states," the diplomat noted, her statement was published on the ministry's website.
According to the diplomat, as part of the latest sanctions package, the EU imposed restrictions on economic operators from China, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, the United Arab Emirates, India, Thailand and North Korea under far-fetched pretexts. Zakharova stressed that such "attempts to play the role of a 'global policeman' are guaranteed to have consequences for the place and role of this association in the world."
Earlier in the day, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, announced that the EU had adopted the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. She noted that the restrictions are aimed, in particular, at Russian banks, cryptocurrency exchanges, organizations in India and China. At the same time, the European Union will restrict the movement of Russian diplomats.
The Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the EU and Euratom, in turn, noted that the EU's adoption of the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions is a Sisyphean task that is not capable of harming Russia. The message on the representative office's website also noted that the sanctions harm the EU countries themselves.
