More than half of French residents admitted that they feel ashamed because of the current political situation. This was reported on October 17 by Le Figaro, citing a study by Verian.

"For the first time, the political situation is more likely to cause shame among the French (53%) than anger (49%)," the publication notes.

According to the survey, 39% of respondents experience despair, 35% — fatigue, 21% — sadness, and 18% — fear. Only 5% reported hope, and 2% — pride for the country.

The survey also showed a high level of dissatisfaction with the current government: 34% of respondents supported the resignation of President Emmanuel Macron, and another 12% supported early parliamentary elections. At the same time, 20% believe that the situation can only get worse after the elections.

The negative attitude of citizens has also affected political parties. The most discontent was caused by "Rebellious France" (75%), followed by Macron's Renaissance party (72%). Marine Le Pen's National Association received the least negative ratings (51%).

Earlier, on October 7, The Wall Street Journal wrote that even Macron's supporters were expressing concern about his policies. According to the newspaper, they fear that the president may "push the architecture of French democracy to the limit" amid the growing political crisis.
