Putin arrives at the Bolshoi Theater to celebrate RT's 20th anniversary
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived at the Bolshoi Theatre on October 17 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the RT television channel.
The Head of State intends to personally congratulate editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan and other channel executives, as well as employees, on their birthday.
Taking the stage, Putin noted in his speech that Russia's sovereignty, for which the country will always fight, depends, among other things, on the ability to deliver objective, unbiased information to people on the planet.
He also added that this is why RT had to appear, and it happened 20 years ago.
Earlier in the day, Putin congratulated RT staff on the 20th anniversary of the channel. When asked what words the president wanted to convey to the channel, Putin noted that he had not suspected the acquisition of "such a scale" of the idea of creating Russia Today. According to him, pressure is being exerted on journalists, but they do not succumb to the "global information mainstream."
