The Russian Embassy in Moldova spoke about its readiness for dialogue with Chisinau.
Russia is ready for dialogue with Moldova based on its commitment to the 2001 Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, Russian Ambassador to the Republic Oleg Ozerov told Izvestia on October 16.
"We remain firmly committed to the 2001 Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, according to which we respect the sovereignty, neutral status and territorial integrity of Moldova. Only on the basis of these principles, subject to their observance by both participants, is it possible to build good—neighborly relations and equal, mutually beneficial cooperation," he says.
Russia is open to a constructive dialogue with the Moldovan side.
"Unlike Brussels, which imposes the "only right" geopolitical choice on its wards, we support the sovereign right of our partners to build an independent, nationally oriented foreign policy," the ambassador added.
The Moldovan authorities have been following an anti-Russian course for several years. Parliamentary elections were held in the republic on September 28. The country's Central Election Commission reported that the opposition forces won 49.8% of the vote, while the ruling Action and Solidarity party won first place with a final result of 50.2%.
Later, on October 13, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Rechan refused to lead the government for another term. A new head of government will be appointed in the republic.
