The second most powerful flare in the last four months occurred on the Sun, with maximum X-magnitude events possible during the day. This was announced on October 15 by the press service of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS.

"About half an hour ago, an outbreak of the M4.8 level was registered. According to catalogs, this is the second most powerful event in the last four months," the Laboratory wrote on its Telegram channel.

It is noted that Class X flares may occur during the day, and the multi-month record for the number of solar flares may also be broken.

"The graphs show a continuous increase in the background radiation of the Sun, which has increased fourfold in a day and is approaching the M level," the RAS clarified.

On October 14, scientists reported that one of the largest prominences observed this year had broken away from the Sun. Its trajectory will pass between Mercury and Earth, while the planets should not fall into the impact zone, experts said.
