On October 10, Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram messenger, announced his unwillingness to celebrate his birthday due to the fact that his generation has less and less time to save the free Internet.

"I'm turning 41, but I don't want to celebrate. Our generation has less and less time to save the free Internet created for us by our fathers," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

As an example, Durov cited European countries that, in his opinion, are introducing dystopian measures such as scanning personal messages, digital identity cards and online age checks.

"What was once a promise of free information exchange is turning into a powerful control tool," he said.

Pavel Durov said on September 28 that about a year ago, the French special services contacted him and asked him to help the Moldovan authorities censor some of the platform's channels. According to him, after checking the specified channels, the Telegram team deleted only those that clearly violated the rules of the platform. At the same time, the mediator said that for this cooperation, French intelligence "will say a lot of good things" to the judge who issued the decision on his arrest in August last year.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
