On October 9, Bioniq doctor Daria Dibrova told Izvestia about the causes and risks of low blood pressure (BP), as well as ways to correct and prevent it.

"Hypothyroidism (thyroid insufficiency), adrenal insufficiency, anemia of any origin, brain tumors, dysregulation of the hormones renin/ aldosterone, prolonged dehydration can lead to a persistent decrease in blood pressure. If we are talking about a sudden drop in blood pressure, then it is necessary to exclude acute life—threatening conditions such as heart attack, stroke, thromboembolism, cardiac arrhythmia, massive blood loss, and immediate allergic reactions such as Quincke's edema," the specialist said.

According to her, among people prone to orthostatic hypotension (a sharp drop in blood pressure when changing body position), there are athletes and people with a body weight deficit or tall stature. In such cases, a drop in blood pressure is often accompanied by dizziness and weakness.

The main symptoms of low blood pressure include weakness, drowsiness, dizziness, low exercise tolerance, and cravings for salty foods and caffeinated beverages. To normalize the condition at home, you should put a person with raised legs, provide fresh air and give them a strong sweet tea to drink. You should also seek medical help to avoid mistakes in self-diagnosis and avoid harm.

In addition, Dibrova recommends monitoring blood pressure daily, especially before physical activity or driving a car. If you feel unwell on the day of training, you should choose less intense types of exercises, such as stretching or joint exercises.

On September 30, Li Yan, Chief Physician of the Department of Cardiology at Tandu Hospital at the Air Force Medical University, reported on the worldwide increase in the incidence of valvular diseases in people over 70 years of age. According to him, in order to improve heart health, it is necessary to know the main risk factors, including old age or hereditary predisposition. The specialist also called for attention to blood pressure control, hyperlipidemia and blood sugar levels.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
