Courier reported on the split between the countries in the "coalition of the willing"
The Paris meeting of the countries participating in the "coalition of the willing" showed a split on the issue of sending their troops to Ukraine to resolve the conflict. This was reported by the Courier newspaper on September 4.
"The fact that many questions remain is due to the difficult situation in some coalition countries. In recent weeks, there has been a desire in some European capitals to avoid this topic," the publication notes.
According to the Courier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called the debate about possible peacekeepers "premature," and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius rejected the idea of deploying troops in Ukraine. In France itself, political instability also calls into question the continued financing of defense and military initiatives.
As the newspaper noted, doubts persist in other countries. For example, Poland and Italy have so far ruled out sending troops to the territory of Ukraine.
Earlier, on September 5, the "coalition of the willing" prepared a plan to create a security strategy for Ukraine. It is to turn Ukraine into a porcupine, a strategy also known as the Israeli or South Korean model. It was noted that the negotiations of the "coalition of willing" are held confidentially behind closed doors.
Later, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the decision of 26 countries to contribute to Ukraine's security. According to the French leader, the contribution of the countries may include the deployment of troops, air and naval support, as well as assistance in the reconstruction of the Ukrainian army.
