NovGU specialists have developed a new way to treat malocclusion
A new method of treating malocclusion was proposed by specialists from Novgorod State University (NovGU), its use is possible in cases where the lower jaw is displaced backward relative to the upper one. This was announced on August 7 by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia.
The treatment consists in the simultaneous use of two methods of influencing the bite: an orthodontic mouthguard and a Herbst device, said a representative of the department. "Газете.Ru ". According to him, when the lower jaw is moved backwards, the problem is that a person deliberately pushes it forward during meals. As a result, this affects the condition of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), there is an overstrain of the maxillofacial muscles.
"That is why for patients with malocclusion complicated by temporomandibular joint dysfunction, it is important not only to restore the correct closure of the teeth, but also to restore the function of the joint and the muscles that move the lower jaw. In our opinion, the kappa separating the dentition and the Herbst device, which helps to change the position of the lower jaw, can solve this problem and provide effective treatment to patients," explained Roman Fadeev, Professor of the Department of Dentistry at NovSU.
Earlier, on July 27, Emeline Shevchuk, Director of digital diagnostics and clinical support at EUROKAPPA, said that the growing popularity of aligners is accompanied by marketing tricks: some clinics offer treatment at a lower price, hiding additional costs. The cost of treatment for 50-70 thousand rubles usually includes either one jaw or an extremely simple case.
