- Zakharova called Norway's pretext to support sanctions against Russian fishing paranoia
Norway's decision to join the European Union (EU) sanctions against Russia in the field of fisheries borders on paranoia. This was announced on July 30 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"As for the pretext that was used by the Norwegian authorities for the next anti-Russian measures, it can only be called a manifestation of paranoia. From the point of view of those who explained this decision in Norway, Russian fishing companies are allegedly involved in intelligence activities sponsored by the Russian state and aimed at critical infrastructure in the maritime areas of Norway and NATO allies," she said.
Oslo did not provide any evidence to support his statements.
As the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted, Norway, by restricting the work of Russian fishing vessels, neglects its obligations within the framework of existing bilateral relations between states. Zakharova noted that such actions would not be ignored.
Earlier, on July 29, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned Norway's Charge d'affaires in the Russian Federation, Ragnhild Johansen, and handed him a protest note due to restrictions imposed in July on fishing vessels of the Russian companies Norebo and Murman Seafood. It is clarified that both companies were previously included in the EU sanctions lists.
