Police officers prevented the deception of a pensioner from the Moscow region and detained a criminal courier. This was announced on July 29 by the MIA Media portal.

"Police officers received operational information about an impending crime against an elderly local resident. The police detained the criminal courier at the time of handing him 300 thousand rubles," the message on the Telegram channel says.

It is clarified that earlier a stranger called the 80-year-old pensioner's phone, who introduced himself as an operator of a telecommunications company. He informed the woman that the landline phones would allegedly be disconnected, and then offered to switch to another line without losing the number and changing the tariff. The pensioner agreed.

A few days later, the woman received calls from alleged representatives of law enforcement agencies and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, who reported that the pensioner had received calls from fraudsters who copied her voice and had full access to existing accounts. She was advised to transfer her savings to their employee for crediting to a secure account.

A criminal case was opened into the incident under Articles 30 and Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The defendant is currently under house arrest. The investigation is ongoing.

On July 26, the Moscow prosecutor's office said that a pensioner from Moscow had given more than 63.7 million rubles to telephone fraudsters. It was noted that at the beginning, a service representative allegedly called the woman and informed her about the replacement of the intercom, and then an employee of Roskomnadzor allegedly reported the theft of personal data and persuaded her to follow the instructions on the phone to save her savings.
