Merz ruled out a diplomatic settlement of the conflict in Ukraine
It will no longer be possible to resolve the conflict in Ukraine through diplomacy. This was announced on July 9 by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
"We will continue to help Ukraine, ladies and gentlemen, even despite the resistance of the left and the pro-Russian right in this parliament. We will continue this support. And I want to make it even clearer to you: diplomatic means [to resolve the conflict in Ukraine] have been exhausted," he said at a meeting of the Bundestag.
The German Chancellor also stressed that he seeks international and European cooperation to fight Russia.
On July 7, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed Moscow's readiness for a diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, it should be about lasting peace, not a truce. He also expressed the opinion that, first of all, it is necessary to eliminate the threats to Russia's security associated with the expansion of NATO and "the involvement of Ukraine in this military bloc."
