Spain detains man involved in more than 40 cyberattacks on NATO and U.S. Army bases
In the Spanish city of Alicante detained an 18-year-old hacker who was involved in more than 40 cyberattacks on NATO and U.S. Army databases. This was reported by the Guardia Civil on the social network X (formerly Twitter) on February 5.
"An investigation <...> led to the arrest of a "dangerous" 18-year-old Spanish hacker in Calpe (Alicante) for accessing the computer services of some 40 public and private organizations," the Europa Press (EP) agency said in a story.
It is specified that the attacked companies include the Guardia Civil, the Public Employment Service, the Ministry of Defense, NATO and the U.S. Army, as well as Spanish universities, the Ministry of Education, Training and Sports and other international organizations.
According to police sources, the man subsequently tried to sell and information via the darknet without first analyzing it.
The detainee is charged for his alleged involvement in crimes related to disclosure and disclosure of classified information, illegal access to systems, computer damage and money laundering.
Earlier, on January 17, the Bloomberg agency reported about the hackers breaking into the computer of former U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. It was specified that cybercriminals may be related to the Chinese government.
