A firefighter died in Horlivka when a munition was detonated

In the DNR, the head of the fire and rescue unit of Gorlovka, Sergey Nikitenko, was killed when an explosive device detonated. This was reported by the Russian Emergencies Ministry on September 24.

It is specified that as a result of shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in Nikitovsky district of Gorlovka a house caught fire. A team of firefighters went to the scene. During extinguishing the fire exploded. Serhiy Nikitenko received injuries incompatible with life. Two more specialists are hospitalized.

"Today we have lost a true hero who dedicated his entire life to the cause of rescue. Sergei Nikitenko was not just a talented leader, but also an example for his subordinates. He was devoted to his profession to the end," the message quotes the words of the head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry Alexander Kurenkov.

Colonel of Internal Service Sergei Nikitenko worked in Gorlovka for 26 years. He was awarded the insignia "For Merit to the Republic" III degree, the medal of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the DNR "For Distinction in the elimination of the consequences of the emergency", breastplates "Honorary employee of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the DNR" and "For Distinction in Service".

The Russian EMERCOM also expressed deep condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
