Commanders sent inexperienced servicemen to the front line as cannon fodder and set tasks via radio communication. A captured serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Yaroslav Zaporozhets, told Izvestiya on 23 September.

According to the young man, during the mass mobilization people were forcibly brought to military recruitment offices, including sick, disabled and elderly people. At the same time, the medical commission was conducted formally.

"I am asthmatic in general... I did not serve in the conscription, and there are just no people here. They take everyone," the soldier pointed out.

He also added that commanders never appeared at the front lines, and all instructions were given remotely by radio. At the same time, due to poor planning of combat operations, the Ukrainian army suffers colossal losses in manpower and equipment.

"We arrived at the position. We were given a map, an A4 sheet, a radio, two batteries. No one had a clue how to use the map. We got lost... They just let us go for meat," the prisoner concluded.

Earlier, on September 21, another AFU prisoner of war, Mykola Ustenko, told a similar story. He noted that untrained military personnel were sent to the Zaporizhzhya direction. The militants started to take some actions to avoid being sent to the front line, but as a result they started to be sent to the front line.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term of office expired on 20 May, signed the law on toughening mobilization on 16 April. The document specifies the categories of persons subject to mobilization and toughens penalties for evading it. In addition, most men between the ages of 18 and 60 are prohibited from leaving the country.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
