Italy will not authorize the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to launch strikes with Western weapons on the territory of Russia. This was stated by the country's Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani in an interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper on Sunday, September 22.

"We cannot allow Kiev to bomb Moscow," the newspaper quotes the politician as saying.

He also reminded that the resolution on this issue, which was adopted by the European Parliament, has no legal force. In addition, the Italian minister pointed out that Hungary should not be deprived of its EU presidency just because it disagrees with the position of its government on the Ukrainian conflict.

Tajani refused to approve strikes deep into Russia, despite the fact that another package of military aid to Ukraine from Italy was adopted, which also included an air defense system(air defense system) SAMP-T clarifies "Gazeta.Ru".

Earlier, on September 19, at the plenary session in Strasbourg, MEPs adopted by a majority vote a resolution calling on the European Union (EU) countries to lift restrictions on Ukraine ' s strikes on Russian territories.

On September 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin said about the consequences of possibly allowing Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territories. The president said that a possible authorization of the USA and the European Union to strike Russian territory would speak about their direct involvement in the Ukrainian conflict and would fundamentally change its essence.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022.
